Global Wellness Day: Amway’s Commitment to Trust, Transparency and Traceability
June 14 is recognized worldwide as Global Wellness Day but, at Amway, it is no different than any other day. Why? Because helping people live well has been a core tenet of the company since our founding, and something Amway practices daily.

Since Amway’s start 65 years ago, the company has been helping people live better lives. Amway’s first product was one of the world’s first biodegradable all-purpose cleaners. This marked the beginning of the journey for a company on a mission to create high-quality products that are grounded in science and promote wellbeing. Since then, Amway has continued to develop and manufacture products with wellness in mind, ranging from nutritional supplements to home water filtration systems.
Key to our overall commitment to wellbeing are the tenets of trust, transparency and traceability. This is crucial at a time when many consumers are faced with the Supplement Paradox. Described in a recent Future of Wellness report by the Global Wellness Summit, the Supplement Paradox encompasses the trust issues plaguing the supplement industry. Although a culturally relevant and booming $178 billion market, some believe the supplement industry is loosely regulated, resulting in some credibility issues.
Today, 77% of American adults have made supplements a part of their daily routine, according to a recent Habits and Healthspan survey commissioned by Amway. The same survey found that 47% of Americans believed that supplements are approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which is not true, revealing a shocking difference in perception versus reality when it comes to supplements.
With all the confusion in the supplement industry, it is critical to have high safety, quality and traceability standards for products. And at Amway, we meet or exceed standards set by law and by industry. For example, for Amway’s supplement brand NutriliteTM, you can follow botanical product ingredients from the farm where the source plant was grown all the way to the supplements that end up on consumers’ shelves at home. With nearly 6,000 acres of organic farmland and manufacturing plants across the country, Amway is also responsible for much of the supply chain for these products.
“Traceability of product development is rapidly emerging as a key factor for consumers who want greater assurances of safety, authenticity and quality in their supplements. In the wake of the pandemic, people are more willing to invest time and effort into researching the products they purchase. Botanical ingredients used in our Nutrilite supplements go through an uncompromising, nine-step traceability process unique to us. By providing transparency at every step, we empower our consumers to feel confident about the products they are choosing. Consumers can now experience that journey firsthand on the all-new Amway Tracing Tool,” says Amway’s chief marketing officer, Melodie Nahkle.
And this is, in no way, new for Amway. Nutrilite founder Carl Rehnborg was a pioneer in supplement development and made sure he had the ability to control the growing process for his crops from seed to harvest to ensure the quality of his products. He used sustainable and organic farming methods decades before they became industry buzzwords, and Amway continues to uphold many of those practices today.
Many other organizations have also recognized Amway for its commitment to quality and safety. Amway products have certifications from leading organizations such as NSF International, EcoCert SA, the Skin Cancer Foundation and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s Safer Choice program.
Amway is committed to sustainable and traceable practices because not only is it the right thing to do, it’s what consumers want. A whopping 87% of Americans surveyed want to know what they are putting into their bodies, and 60% agree it’s important to know the seed-to-production path to ensure quality. Amway has long prioritized consumer trust by emphasizing the traceability of its ingredients.
Through its quality, safety and transparency Amway is empowering consumers to make decisions for themselves and their families, on Global Wellness Day and every day. To everyone here at Amway, Global Wellness Day is not just another awareness day – it is a reminder of the company’s roots and commitment to health and wellbeing.
