Healthier Together: Amway & YMCA
What do Amway and the YMCA have in common? Their shared mission to help people live better lives. Together, these companies have been helping communities across the country achieve the goal of a healthy spirit, mind and body for a combined 240 years.
Amway joined forces with the Y 30 years ago to deepen and strengthen their ability to collaborate and reinvest in U.S. communities. Over that time, Amway’s support has played a key role in advancing the Y’s mission, particularly in West Michigan.

Recently, Amway announced a new investment into the Y’s programs – a $1.2 million dollar gift over three years towards the Y’s anti-hunger initiatives. One in five children in this country doesn’t know where their next meal is coming from, a horrifying reality for many children and their families. Through this collaborative effort, Amway and the Y aim to serve over seven million meals to one hundred thousand children, to help communities across the U.S. combat the rising food insecurity in the nation.
“Together with Amway, I am really excited about the change that we’re going to be able to make in the lives of these children,” said Suzanne McCormick, President and CEO of YMCA. “Without nutritious meals, without knowing where your next meal is going to come from, it creates incredible stress on families. Amway’s support for our anti-hunger program will help the Y meet the essential nutritional needs of more young people in more communities.”
The Y has 2,650 locations which serve more than 7 million adults and 4 million children across the United States. Amway’s new investment will expand the Y’s impact by contributing toward after-school nutrition programs. In the first year, Amway’s contribution to the Y is projected to increase critical out-of-school food access for 32,145 children and support 26 Y branches, serving more than 2.35 million healthy meals and snacks in the 2024-25 year.
The impact of the supportive relationship between Amway and the YMCA extends far beyond financial contributions. Amway has actively engaged with local Y branches, volunteering time and expertise to strengthen various programs and initiatives over the years. For decades, Amway volunteers have been a proud part of Camp Manitou-Lin, a beloved children’s camp in Barry County. Amway employees have also been pitching in at YMCAs throughout the Greater Grand Rapids area, helping to support local programs and strengthen local communities.
“We want communities to be thriving,” says Andrew Schmidt, Managing Director – Amway North America. “For communities to be thriving, people need to be healthy – and certainly children. In many communities the Y serves a critical role of helping at-risk children have access to not just food, but nutritious food to help them grow up in a healthy way.”
At Amway, we’re inspired by the Y’s relentless work to support healthier and stronger communities, and we are honored to continue standing alongside the Y for years to come.
